Weekend Workshop- Intro to Traditional Etching

This two-day class will introduce students to etching, a 16th-century printmaking technique. We will focus primarily on the hard-ground line etching technique. The process involves incising an image onto a metal plate, which is then treated with acid, cleaned, inked, and printed onto paper via a press to create a detailed print. For a visual example of this process, check out this link from the Metropolitan Museum. Note that this class uses solvents and oil-based ink.
